Parks retain Green Flag Award status

Two parks in the Wyre Forest district are once again celebrating being named among the country’s best.

Brinton Park in Kidderminster and Queen Elizabeth II Gardens in Bewdley are among 2,127 parks and green spaces across the country achieving the coveted Green Flag Award status in 2021.

The Green Flag Award scheme is marking its Silver Jubilee this year. The award is the international quality mare for parks and green spaces. It is managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.

Councillor John Thomas, Cabinet Member for Operational Services said: “I’m delighted that Brinton Park and Queen Elizabeth II Gardens have both received the Green Flag Award.

“Over the past 18 months our parks and green spaces have played a vital role for people through lockdowns as a place to relax, exercise and meet friends and family safely.

“This achievement highlights the hard work and dedication of our operational services team that make our green spaces, great places that everyone can enjoy.”

Commenting on the district’s successes, Green Flag Award Scheme Manager Paul Todd said: “I would like to congratulate everyone involved in making Brinton Park and Queen Elizabeth II Gardens worthy of a Green Flag Award.”

“To meet the requirements demanded by the scheme is testament to the hard work of the staff and volunteers who do so much to ensure that both parks have high standards of horticulture, safety and environmental management and is a place that supports people to live healthy lives.”
